Viola Marie Gover, 88, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, died Saturday, November 8, 1997, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting.

Mrs. Gover was born on April 25, 1909, at Lupus, Missouri, the daughter of A.L. and Jessie (Vaughan) Clay. 'She married James W. Gover on October 11, 1928, in California, Missouri. The couple moved to Onawa in 1942. He died January 7, 1983, in Onawa.

She was a member of the Onawa Baptist Church and affiliated with the First Christian Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Ed and MaryJane Gover of Des Moines; two daughters, William and her husband Howard Hathaway of Castana, Iowa, and Louis Kratz of Whiting, Iowa; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law and an infant brother.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 1997, at the First Christian Church, Onawa,Iowa, with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating. The organist was Mrs. Vince Phillips and the organ selection was "A Closer Walk With Thee". The congregational hymn was "Family of God".

Casket bearers were Jackie Hathaway, Penny Stanislav, Colleen Langenfield, Lisa Sandin, Debbie Moore, Sue Reid, and Terri Jennings.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home,
Onawa, Iowa.
