27 August 2014John William Althoff, 74, of Onawa, Iowa died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor John Sears, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the Chapel. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
John William Althoff was born May 7, 1940 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Frank Sr. and Dorothy (Turner) Althoff. He grew up in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School in 1958.
John and Linda Dunlap was united in marriage on June 30, 1973. Two children were born to this union, Tina-Jo and Debbie. John and Linda adopted their two grandchildren, Eein and Gabe McKinley.
In his younger years, John liked to hunt and fish with his family and friends. John joined and served in the United States Marines during Vietnam. After his discharge from the United States Marines, John worked for the Boiler Makers Local 83 for many years. He also worked as a taxi driver, and was a card dealer at local casinos. Throughout his life John loved going to the movies, and when he was younger he worked at the Onawa Theatre almost every night. He loved all movies, especially those involving war.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Althoff; two daughters, Tina-Jo (James) Anderson and Debbie McKinley; three grandchildren, Stephanie Anderson, Eein McKinley, and Gabe McKinley; one niece and one nephew; and one aunt, Shirley Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Dorothy; one brother, Frank Althoff Jr.; one sister, Sandra Hedges; and one niece, Anita Moore.
