Mary Elaine Woodward passed away August 13, 2014 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, IA at the age of 88 surrounded by family.

Mary was born October 25, 1925 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Karl and Evelyn Hall Nagel. She graduated from Smithland High School with the class of 1943.

On April 7, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Everett C. Woodward at the Ticonic United Methodist Church. To this union eight children were born, Sharon, Larry, Roger, Harold, Bernie, Karla, Kristi and Helen. They spent their married life on a farm south of Ticonic. Everett passed away on August 25, 1971.

Upon the death of her husband, Mary went to work at Maple Heights for 16 years. She worked in laundry, as a kitchen helper and retired as head cook.

Mary's greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many others thru the years who although were not blood, called her Grandma Mary. There was always room for one more. She always kept a few extra wrapped gifts at Christmas time, not always knowing who might be coming.

She also enjoyed traveling with some of her adult children and their families from time to time. Her favorite hobby was her antiques and "pretties" as she called them. Mary, Dorothy Heisler and LaVera Jacobson had many great times going to auctions and taking site-seeing trips together. Her tables at McCall's Auction House in Onawa were great fun for her....she was always excited about showing us how she cataloged every item and was so excited when something sold. In her "spare time" there was always a jigsaw puzzle going on the dining room table.

Mary was a member of the Ticonic United Methodist church in Ticonic, IA, serving as President of the Ladies Aide group, treasurer for the church and also took great pride in making, filling and delivering mission bags for the church.

Survivors include her children, Sharon and Mike Clayton of Salix, Roger of Mapleton, Harold (Harry) and Jackie of Battle Creek, Bernie of Rodney, Karla and David McGrain of Mapleton, Kristi and Brice Bollin of Anthon, Helen Bleil of Rodney; her brother Elwood Nagel of Mapleton; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Darren and Julie Clayton, Katelyn and Addison of Auburn, Carl and Emily Clayton, Jack and Charlie of Salix, Steven and Kristin Clayton, Taylor Kim, Alex and Jase Thurman of Ashland, NE, Jason, Julie and Tyler Woodward of Omaha, NE, Tracey and Rod Lindblom, Payton Dobrovolny, Alex and Matt Lindblom of Sioux City; Heath and Emily Woodward of Lake View, Heather Groth and Jackson of Battle Creek, Cole Rhea of Battle Creek, Phil McGrain and special friend Laura of Mapleton, Lindsey and Abby McGrain both of Omaha, NE, Nate Fritz and Nicole, Cooper and Kennedy of Neola, Kelly and Terry Weaver, Brett, James and Jared of Anthon, Randi and Chad Uhl, Mia and Lawson of Danbury, Kayla and Weston Till and baby Till on the way of Smithland, Libby and Rick Beckman and Grace Bennett of Moville, Lacey Bleil, Elexis Hamman and Aiden McDonald of Sioux City, Meg Hough, Marcus and Mallory of Sioux City, Lorissa Mauch of Norfolk, NE, Colby Mauch of Castana, and Mark Bleil, Daniel and Nicholas of Chesapeake, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and June Woodward of Sioux City, Beers and Darlene Woodward of Mapleton, Jerry and Jean Woodward of Wichita, KS, Don and Sue Woodward of Ticonic; and numerous nieces and nephews.
