25 August 2014ONAWA, Iowa | Steven W. "Buck" Kennedy, 52, of Onawa died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Paul Malcomson officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Steven Weber "Buck" was born June 19, 1962, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of William R. and Judy A, (Bolen) Kennedy. He grew up in the Onawa area and graduated from West Monona High School in 1980. He then attended WIT in Sioux City for his CDL. He worked at IBP for eight years, W.S. Bunch in Omaha, and Hardsteel in Decatur, Neb.
Buck enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, birdwatching, and most importantly, his family. Buck was a member of Pheasants Forever and Whitetails Unlimited. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.
In 2009, Buck was injured in a car accident and paralyzed from the chest down. After time spent at Madonna Rehab in Lincoln and QLI in Omaha, he was able to come home to his new house built with help from Habitat for Humanity, his family, friends, and community members. Buck enjoyed driving his wheelchair around town to shop and visit. Buck could be seen most nice days outside working on his tan. He couldn’t have done all this without the help from the nurses and aides from Burgess Home Health.
Buck is survived by his son, Derek (Shelby Nigro) Kennedy of Odebolt, Iowa; his daughter, Shawna (Josh) Davis of Odebolt; his father, William Kennedy of Onawa; his mother, Judy Schauff of Cassville, Wis.; his brother, Michael (Christine) Kennedy of Onawa; grandchildren, Conner Davis, Colin Davis, and baby Kennedy due in December; his nephew, Gunner Kennedy; nieces, Stephanie (Brett) Gullord and Jennifer Kennedy; great niece, Aubrey Gullord; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Dorothy Kennedy and Henry and Laura Bolen; stepdad, Lyle Schauff; and a nephew, Nathaniel "Neno" Kennedy.
