Helen Otilda Phipps, 80, of Onawa, Iowa; died on Saturday, September 11, 1999, at the Elmwood Care Centre in Iowa, Iowa.

She was born September 28, 1918, at Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Anna (Nelson) Steen. She attended Hartigan Country School and married Wilbur Phipps on April 11, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Onawa area until moving into town in 1953.

Helen was baptized and confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church in 1933 and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbur of Onawa, and one brother, Archie Steen of Ida Grove, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Steen.

Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 1999, at the Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Steven C. Hetzel officiating. The pianist was Mrs. Syril Brown and the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, sang the selections "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace.

Casket Bearers were Norman Rolph, John Zink, Lee
Kirkpatrick, John Adams, John C. Johnson, and Joe Fouts.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
