MAPLETON, Iowa — Helen E. Hars, 96, of Mapleton died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a St. Mary's Guild rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Hars was born March 10, 1901, in Mapleton, the daughter of John and Hattie Mae (Steale) Altmanshofer.

She was employed with various businesses in the Mapleton community.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she cleaned the church for many years, and the St. Mary's Guild.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Darrell and Alice of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Emegine Altmanshofer of Mapleton and Viola Mack of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Pam Rogers and Rick Hars; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters.
