Thelma Viola Larson, 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mrs. Larson was born December 24, 1909, at Smithland, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Susie (Watkins) Hollister. She attended school in Smithland and graduated from the Smithland High School. She married Erick Larson Sr. on December 6, 1928, at Onawa, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Hornick and Whiting areas. Mr. Larson died August 26, 1970 at Whiting. Thelma had been a resident at the Matney's West Side Manor in Sioux City since May 1988.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son and his wife, James and Marjorie Larson of St. Paul, Minnesota; one daughter and her husband, Patricia and Max Irwin of Fullerton, Nebraska; a son-in-law, Billie Newland of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Larson of Sloan, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a foster daughter and her husband, Joan and Jerry Fersti of Algona, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Carl Larson and Erick Larson, Jr.; a daughter, Shirley Newland; 2 grandsons; three sisters; and six brothers.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Wood Funeral Chapel, Sloan, Iowa, with Pastor Ed Elliott officiating. The organist was Mrs. Robert Madsen. Congregational Hymns were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art".

Casket Bearers were her grandchildren.

Interment was in the Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan.
