MAPLETON, Iowa — Katie Emma Hesse, 89, of Mapleton died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Daniel Torkelsen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Hesse was born July 31, 1909, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Somphina (Schneider) Henning.

She married August "Jake" Hesse on Feb. 23, 1928, in Denison. He died Sept. 1, 1978.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Fred and Karla of Linclon, Neb.; three daughters, Marjorie and her husband, Keith Maxfield of Sioux City, Leila and her husband, Robert Reimer of Denison, Iowa, and Elvera Bennett of Olny, Md.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Marie and her husband, Orville Riessen of Charter Oak and Hildegarde Schrader of Denison.
