MAPLETON, Iowa-- Violet Esther Steckelberg, 69, of Mapleton died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Daniel Torkelsen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Steckelberg was born May 27, 1929, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Clara (Weliner) Miller. She attended school and lived in the Danbury and Mapleton area.

She married Willis Steckelberg on Feb. 14, 1947, in Mapleton. She was employed with the Whiting family, Valley Bank and Trust and other businesses in Mapleton. He died Dec. 1, 1993.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed working in her yard and home.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Wayne and JoAnne of Sioux City, Randy and Carol and Blaine and Diane, all of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Nelda and Robert Weber and Fern and Harry Carter, all of Mapleton; a brother and his wife, Ephrain "Shorty" and LaJune Miller of Sterling, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Madeline and her husband, Dale Campbell of Mapleton and Mary Ellen Miller of Moville, Iowa; and eight grandchildren, Todd, Mindy, Ross, Ryan, Lyssa, Jenna, Lindsey and Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond; a sister, Lillian Reed; and a brother-in-law Clifford Reed.
