UTE, Iowa — Violet Carlson Quandt, 84, of Ute died Tuesday, May 16, 1989, at the home of her daughter in Ute.

Services will be at 10 p.m. Saturday in the Christian Church in Ute with the Rev. Mark Smeltzer officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Walter Funeral Home in Ute.

Mrs. Quandt, the former Violet Reynolds was born Feb. 7, 1905, rural Ute. She lived most of her life in the Charter Oak-Ute area except for five years at Vernon, Kan., as a child. She married John Carlson Oct. 28, 1926. He died Nov. 23, 1943. She married George Quandt in 1965. He died Nov. 21,1968.

She worked for one year in Boston and at the Sioux City County Home for several years. She also operated Vi's Cafe in Ute for four years and the Berne Country Store for several years. She moved into Ute in 1970.

Mrs. Quandt was a member of the Ute Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of America and American Legion Auxiliary. She served as president of the Senior Citizens Group at Ute for two years.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Garnet) Knutson of Sioux City, Alice Thompson of Sioux City and Mrs. Duane (Nilmah) Thompson of Ute; four sons, John and his wife, Bonnie, Joe and his wife, Kathy, and Norman, all of Ute and Albin and his wife, Mary Lou of Cherokee; two stepchildren, Mrs. Henry (Colleen) Ketelson of Charter Oak and Glen and his wife, Jerri Quandt of Ute; four sisters, Ruth Shanahan of Ute, Dorothy Golden and Iris McMains, both of Sunnyside, Wash., and Archadean White of Omaha; 37 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Earl; two brothers; one sister, and four grandchildren.
