17 February 1966Kenneth Harold Melby, a son of the late Adolph and Lena Melby, was born November 27, 1906 near Moorhead and passed away suddenly February 1 at the age of 59 years, two months and 5 days.
He spent his entire life east of Moorhead. He was engaged in farming until 1938. For 24 Years he had been employed in Monona county, where he operated a maintainer in the road department.
January 25, 1928, he was united in marriage to Donna Nichols at Logan. Early in life he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Lutheran Church at Soldier.
He is survived by his wife; Donna; four brothers, Arnold and Willard of Dunlap, Dale of Woodbine and Leonard of Moorhead; five sisters, Mrs. Richie (Mildred) Andrews of Moorhead, Mrs. Earl (Agnes) Weber, Mrs. Herbert (Gilma) Kline, and Mrs. Leo (Edna) Hull, all of Dunlap, and Mrs. Claude (Lorraine) Price of Sioux City; plus many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 5 at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Pastor Harry C. Sorensen officiating. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson sang "In the Garden" and "No Disappointment in Heaven", accompanied by Mrs. Harry Anderson at the organ.
Pallbearers were Bernard Thoreson, Stanley Frydenlund, Howard Nordaker, Boyd Pratt, Carl Peterson and Earl Ballantyne. Interment was in the Soldier Valley cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson funeral home of Soldier.
