CASTANA, Iowa — Russell Edward Davis, 66, of Castana died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Castana Community Church, with the Revs. Robert W. Fritzmeier and Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a Masonic service at 5 p.m. at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Davis was born June 4, 1933, in Castana, the son of Lloyd R. and Lucille (Everett) Davis. He graduated from Castana High School in 1952.

He married Benita Matthews in July 15, 1956, in Pisgah, Iowa. The couple moved from Omaha to Castana in November 1957. Since the late 1970s, he had operated Davis Trucking in Castana.

He was a member of Castana Community Church, where he served on the church board. He was a member of Hillcrest Lodge A.F. & A.M. 648 in Castana and later Vesper Lodge A.F. & A.M. 223 in Onawa, where he was a past Master. He was a member of Queen Esther Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 222, where he was a past Patron, Sioux City Consistory and Abu Bela Shrine Temple of Sioux City. He served on the Castana city council and as Castana fire chief for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debra Hahn of Omaha; a son and his wife, Robert and Alice of Castana; four grandchildren, Jessica Ann, Matthew Everett and Corey Russell Davis and Lindsay Leigh Hahn; three brothers and their wives, Donald and Virgie of Turin, Iowa, Keith and Alyce of Denver, and Richard and Carrie Ann of Castana; and several nieces and nephews.
