Catherine (Hunt) Barney, 84, of Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, January 19, 1999, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Catherine was born August 27, 1914, in Bloomingdale, Indiana to Lester and Hazel (Day) Chapman. She moved to Honey Creek, Iowa, in 1920 and then to Turin, Iowa in 1923. She attended country school followed by two years of high school in Turin and graduated from Onawa in 1932.

On February 26,1934, she married Howard Hunt in Onawa. The couple farmed in Monona and Harrison Counties. Mr. Hunt died in 1971.

During these years Catherine worked at the Bennett Nursing Home in Turin and Onawa as a cook and also at restaurants and at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa. She was a house mother at the Florence Crittenton Center in Sioux City and also worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. in Sioux City. On August 27, 1980, she married Rockwell Barney. She resided in the Turin and Onawa areas and Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting for two months prior to her death.

She was a past member of Turin United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge of Little Sioux and Onawa.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Myron and Barb Hunt of Phoenix, Arizona, Myron and Sharon Hunt of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Marian and Linda Hunt of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Marilyn Raymond of Ute. Iowa; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Howard "Bud" Chapman of Hornick, Iowa, and Morris Chapman of Patterson, Louisiana; and one sister, Evelyn Hogue of Forsyth, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Howard Hunt.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating.

The organist, Mrs. Daryle Lauritsen, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, in the selection "Amazing Grace".

Casket Bearers, grandsons, were Gregory Hunt, Troy Hunt, Mark Hunt, Steve Hunt, Cory Hunt and Michael Hunt.

Interment was in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
