Ruth Mary Mordhorst, daughter of Axel Edvin and Frideborg Ebba (Drott) Schell, was born January 25, 1921 in Worcester, Massachusetts. She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at her home in Smithland, Iowa at the age of 93.

Ruth was the daughter of Swedish immigrants and after her birth in Massachusetts the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa for a short time then moved to Omaha, Nebraska. She attended school in Omaha and graduated from North High School with the Class of 1938. After high school, she worked at Northern Natural Gas in Omaha.

On August 16, 1944, Ruth was united in marriage to Clifford William Mordhorst in Omaha. To this union four children were born: Alice, Richard, Douglas and Larry. Ruth and Clifford made their home on a farm near Osmond, Nebraska until 1960 when they moved to a dairy farm at Grant Center. After one year, the family moved to a farm south of Rodney. In 1988, Ruth and Clifford retired and moved into Smithland. Clifford died on June 4, 2003 and Ruth continued to make her home in Smithland.

Ruth enjoyed flowers, gardening, visiting with friends and most of all spending time with her family. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Rodney and had been active in the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School for a number of years.

Ruth is survived by her children: Alice Franzen of Coleridge, NE, Richard Mordhorst of Westminster, CO and Douglas Mordhorst and wife Darla of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren: Bill (Stacy) Franzen, Annette (David) Sudbeck, Alan (Nancy) Franzen, Ryan Mordhorst, Kristy Mordhorst, Troy Mordhorst, Travis Mordhorst, Amy (David) Phipps and Russell (Jennifer) Bauer; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Schell of Omaha, NE; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; one son, Larry; son-in-law, Leonard Franzen; daughter-in-law, Cyndi Mordhorst; one granddaughter, Barbara Brewer; one sister, Betty (Jim) Hultman and one sister-in-law, Maxine Schell
