UTE, Iowa — Bertha Petersen, 88, of Ute, died Thursday, May 20, 1999, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Edgar Bode officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Mrs. Petersen was born March 11, 1911, at Arcadia, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Steinhauer) Kroeger. She was raised and educated at Arcadia.

She married Elmer Petersen on Dec. 19, 1934, at Arcadia. The couple lived in Carroll County and later moved to Crawford County where they farmed. They retired and moved into Ute, in 1981. Mr. Petersen died May 19, 1998.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Don and Sheryl of Ute, and Darrell and Shirley of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Leonard Gotto of Ute, and Dorothy and Duane Treft of Perry, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a sister, brother, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
