Loran Clifford Parrish, 76, of Whiting, Iowa, died Monday, November 1, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Loran was born October 24, 1923, in Owen County at Spencer, Indiana, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Maners) Parrish. He graduated from Spencer High School, Spencer, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. On March 3, 1946, he married Barbara Henderson at Spencer, Indiana. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at various places.

The couple moved from Missouri to Sloan, Iowa, in 1961 and to Whiting in 1963. He had been employed at Monarch Life Insurance Company, John Holmes Publishing Company and Bowman Distribution. He was owner of Parrish Portrait Studio and Barlo Enterprises in Whiting.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church at Whiting and had been active in church as deacon, trustee and moderator. He is a former member of Weston Lodge #562, A.F. & A.M. at Whiting and past worthy patron of Whiting Chapter #470, Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Whiting: a son and his wife, Harry and Mary Ann Parrish of Whiting; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Marshall Loyd of Omaha, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren, Barbara Parrish of Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire, Harry Parrish, Jr. of Newburyport, Massachusetts and Michelle Loyd of Omaha, Nebraska: 1 great-grandson, Justin Loyd of Omaha, Nebraska; 1 sister and her husband, Martha and George Swafford of Montgomery City, Missouri: 1 step-sister, Mary Morris of Spencer, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, N. Edgar Parrish.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 1999, at the First Congregational Church at Whiting, Iowa, with Pastor Patricia G. Minnick officiating. The organist, Mrs. Don MacClure, and the pianist, Mrs. Robert Haack, played the selection "Amazing Grace".

Casket Bearers were John P. Henderson. Paul "Ed" Henderson, Tom Henderson, Joe Henderson, Joshua Ford and Spencer Henderson.

Interment was in Harrison Cemetery at Whiting, Iowa, with Military Rites by Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481 at Whiting, John Scott, Jr. Commander.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
