Elizabeth D. Maynard, age 83, of Mapleton, died Thursday, April 2, 1992, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Charles Adams officiating. Norma Jean Dose was the organist and the soloist was Margaret Maynard. The congregation sang, "Abide With Me".

Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton.

Mrs. Maynard, the former Elizabeth Ziems, was born August 22, 1908 to Herman and Elisa (Neddermeyeir) Ziems near Ute, Iowa. She moved with her parents to the Mapleton area and graduated from Mapleton High School. She taught in country schools near Mapleton. She married Edward Greskowak August 22, 1930 at Delmont, South Dakota. They owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store in Mapleton until retiring in 1967. Ed died September 3, 1970. She married Leslie Maynard June 29, 1981 at Mapleton. They made their home near Castana.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was active in the Mapleton community, being a member of the Civic Club, the Garden Club, the Mapleton Club, and various business activities. She and Leslie belonged to the Flying Farmers and the Mapleton Flying Club. They both loved to travel, and spent much time sharing this recreation.

Survivors include her husband; a stepson, Ronald Maynard and his wife, Margaret and their family of Smithland; a stepdaughter, Carol Davis and her husband, Edwin and their family of Anthon; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.

Pallbearers were George Koithan, Allen Nepper, Lewis Davis, Edwin Davis, Ronald Maynard and Robert Rossow.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
