MAPLETON, Iowa Ivarel Lewis Rose, 82, of Mapleton died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Rose was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Mapleton, the son of Ben L. and Rachel (Smith) Rose. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1936. He was employed with Burson Drug for seven years.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Onandaga stationed at Astoria, Ore. Following his discharge, he was employed with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, for 30 years.

He married Helen Hutchens on Dec. 24, 1942, in Dayton. The couple made their home in Dayton for 37 years, before moving to Mapleton in 1979.

He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Aldine and her husband, Bill Ahl of Wylie, Texas, and Alice Rose of Boston; two grandsons, David and Michael Ahl; and two great-granddaughters.
