MOORHEAD, Iowa — Howard Collins, 84, of LaGrange Park, Ill., formerly of Indian Head Park, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at a hospital in LaGrange.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with the Rev. Margo Fohs officiating. Burial will be in Ingeman Cemetery in Moorhead. The will be no visitation. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Collins was born June 26, 1912, in Nieber, Wyo., the son of Claude and Martha Kuchler.

He was a veteran of World War II. He. was employed as a sterotyper for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, Colo.

He married Alfrida Larsen on Dec. 8, 1934, in Moorhead. She died Jan. 9, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo. He married Grace (Fahrmeier) Kugel in 1953.

Years ago he played in the Lawrence Welk Orchestra. He enjoyed restoring antique cars.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Edward and Margaret Collins of Clarksburg, Md.; a stepson and his wife, Alfred and Dottie Kugel of Hinsdale, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Morrison, Richard Collins, Deanna Lifritz, Karl and Kris Kugel and Kathryn and Michael Peters; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Lifritz.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association, Chicago, Ill.
