SOLDIER, Iowa — Emma Graetz, 89, of Soldier died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Soldier Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul E. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Home in Soldier.

Mrs. Graetz was born Dec. 10, 1907, in Soldier, the daughter of Ole T. and Mattia (Fjeld) Hanson.

She married Maurice "Dutch' Graetz on July 14, 1929. The couple operated a restaurant and then grocery store in Soldier until retiring in 1970. He died July 24, 1974, in Soldier. She entered the Soldier Retirement Apartments.

She was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church, where she was active in the women's groups and the Senior Citizens and served on the board of the Soldier Retirement Apartments.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jere and Lauretta of Burnsville, Minn.; three grandchildren, Patricia Jensen, Kristin Berryhill and Bradley Graetz; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Hanson of Rodney, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon; two sisters, Mary Ulven and Leona Outhouse; and three brothels, Clarence, Henry and Guy Hanson.
