MAPLETON, Iowa — Fred C. Preul, 87, of Mapleton died Saturday in a nursing home in Mapleton after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Robert Leege and Vicar Kurt Rutz will officiate. Burial will be in the Smithland Cemetery under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton.

Mr. Preul was born Dec. 18, 1894, in Crawford County. He farmed in the Charter Oak,, Battle Creek, Ida Grove, Onawa and Smithland communities.

He married Louise Hottendorf June 17, 1924, at Elk Point, S.D. She died in 1963.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Wayne of Moville; two daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Marcella) Glau of Mapleton and Mrs. Floyd (Bernadine) Dausel of Whiting; three brothers, Henry and Louie, both of Denison and Edward of Charter Oak; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Sander of Charter Oak, Mrs. Hattie Hageman of Ricketts and Mrs. Walter (Ella) Steckelberg of Denison; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
