SOLDIER, Iowa | Florine Lucille Holverson, 88, formerly of Soldier passed away on June 15, 2014, in Phoenix, Ariz. with all of her children and loving husband of 67 years, Arthur, gathered in her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Atonement Lutheran Church in Phoenix. A lunch will be served after the service. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Soldier. Arrangements are under the direction of Menke Funeral Home in Sun City, Ariz.

Florine was born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Arlene (Shepard) McManis. She had one brother, Lawrence McManis. Her mother passed away during Florine’s childhood and her father later married Cecil Nelson.

On Feb 15, 1947, Florine married Arthur Holverson and they raised their six children and farmed near Soldier. Florine was a wonderful mother, homemaker, and tireless helpmate to Arthur as they built their lives on the family farm. They moved to Phoenix in 1984.

Throughout their marriage, Florine and Arthur were devoted to each other. Florine’s greatest passions in life were her family and her faith. She was an active member of Soldier Lutheran Church and then Atonement Lutheran Church in Phoenix. Her spiritual commitment to the Lord was evidenced daily in every aspect of her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother, supporting and encouraging her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their endeavors. Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; six children, Kathleen Kayes of Phoenix, Candace (Max) Boustead of Sergeant Bluff, Blair (Sharon) Holverson of Moorhead, Iowa, Mary Jo (Bill) Birk of Sioux City, Karen Richey of Phoenix, and Paul (Deb) Holverson of Anthem, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Florine was preceded in death by her parents; and brother.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and skillful team at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix for their care at this time
