MRS. VERD McCALL DIED TUESDAY - Was Mother Of Eight Small Children -
When death came Tuesday afternoon to Mrs. Verd McCall of Center township, he was probable not unwelcome, as Mrs. McCall had been suffering from intestinal cancer for several years, years of pain and torture, which she endured with surprising fortitude and patience.
Catherine Shanahan McCall had lived for many years in the vicinity of Ute, where five brothers, two sisters and her mother still live. Her brothers are Frank, William, Timothy and Joseph, and their mother Mrs. Timothy Shanahan. One of the sisters, Theresa, is a nurse and the name of the other, who is married, was not learned. Three other sisters are married and live in eastern Iowa or South Dakota.
For the past three years Mr. and Mrs. McCall and children have lived on the farm comprising the east half of sections eleven and eight in Center township, which Mr. McCall purchased when he left the Ordway place three or four years ago. With the large family and Mrs. McCall in ill health, all the time it has been an uphill job. But with her passing the children lose an exceptional mother and Mr. McCall a helpmate who knew how to appreciate the benefits of adversity.
