7 April 2014ONAWA, Iowa | Dorothy Odetta Ferris, 103, of Onawa died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. John Sears, officiating. Private family burial will be in Onawa Cemetery.
Dorothy Odetta Edwards Ferris was born July 6, 1910, on a farm north of Ute, to Earl and Lodimma (Hayworth) Edwards. Dorothy attended Ute Public Schools through the tenth grade. She transferred to Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, where she graduated in 1927.
On Dec. 20, 1929, Dorothy married Orland Ferris of Ute, and they spent the next 68 years living and working in Onawa, until he passed away in October 1997. To this union, two children were born, Gordon and Nancy.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Carl) Linden and daughter-in-law, Dee Ferris; grandchildren, Chuck (Susan) Ferris, Dr. Cynthia (Jon Weaver) Ferris, Wayne Ferris, Elaine (Darl) Miller, Tammy (Bob) Mohr, Scott (Janne) Linden, Vance (Annette) Linden, Dev Linden, Cara (John) Hilgert; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orland, son, Gordon in January 2005; one infant brother, Loyd Earl; and two sisters, Izetta Coleson and Merle Walters.
