Betty Jean Fowler, 73, of 1217 Orchard, Ottumwa, IA died at 6:42 p.m. on June 5, 2005 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born September 17, 1931 in Onawa, to Pete and Pearl Huntley Funkhouser. She married James Fowler January 17, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1989.

A resident of Ottumwa since 1951, she had worked as a social worker at Ottumwa Manor for over 40 years, retiring in 2001.

Surviving are two daughters, Joann Shilling and Linda (Jim) Rupe both of Ottumwa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lil Conyers and Mary King both of Onawa; a brother Jiggs Funkhouser of Onawa; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Fowler; a grandson, Harold Michael Dee; five brothers, Elliott, Edward, Donald, James and Marvin Funkhouser.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8 at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Loyd Osborn officiating. Burial was in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation began at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday with the family present from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Active pallbearers were Jim Greer, Rick Nelson, Kevin Cook, Dylan Ward, Billie Ware, and Danny Toubekis.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Rupe, Brian Walters and Brandon Sproston.
