GRACE WAPLES

Grace Dunagan Waples died on January 3, 1988, at Portland, Oregon.

She was born July 27, 1901, to Fred N. Dunagan and Maude R. Dunagan at Sloan, Iowa. She was married, in Sioux City, Iowa, on February 24, 1920, to Charles (Heck) Waples. To this union one son, Lyell G. Waples was born. They moved to Battle Creek, Ia., where they lived for 10 years. They then moved to Castana, Iowa, where they operated a Sweet Shop for 25 years.

After her husband’s death in 1956, Grace moved to Portland, Oregon, and worked at the Congress Hotel for 10 years before retiring.

She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Grimsley Thayer Unit 502 at Castana, Ia., for many years.

Survivors include one son, Lyell Waples of Gresham, Ore; 2 grandchildren, Charles (Chuck) Waples of Gresham, Ore. and Carol Rowlands of Milwaukie, Ore.; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews that reside in Iowa.

Memorial services were held at St. Anne’s Church in Portland, Oregon.

She wrote the Castana news for The Onawa Democrat for many years.
