GEORGE W. STEVENSON

George W. Stevenson, 70, of Onawa, died late Monday, January 18, 1988, in St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was born June 7, 1917, at Onawa, the son of Fred and Myrna (Beigel) Stevenson. He was married to Bernice Hoffman on February 14, 1941, at Honey Creek, Iowa.

The couple farmed in the Onawa and Blencoe areas for several years. He had also worked at the Onawa Country Club for 14 years as a caretaker. He enjoyed the great outdoors and was a hunting guide.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church at Onawa and was a member of Stevens-Kelly Post No. 665, American Legion of Blencoe.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; a daughter, Mrs. Ken (Bette) Amunson of Ute; two sons, William of Lincoln, Nebr. and Leon of Sergeant Bluff, Ia.; four sisters, Mrs. Norman (Virginia) Edson of Aurora, Colo., Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Hoffman and Mrs. Rogene (Joann) Eisele, both of Onawa and Mrs. Walter (Lorraine) Greinke of Sioux City; four brothers, Robert of Washington, Ia., Dick of Onawa, Jack of Sloan and Don of Manchester, Ia.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 1988, at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa with Pastor Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Mrs. Syril Brown, the organist, played the selections “In the Garden” and “Abide with Me”.

Bearers were Don Hoffman, Frank Hoffman, Robert Greinke, Michael Eisele, Bradley Stevenson and Charles Oliver.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
