CATHERINE “KATE” MARLEY

Catherine “Kate” Marley, 83, of Blencoe, Iowa, died on Monday, January 4, 1988, at her farm home.

She was born August 24, 1904, at Little Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of John and Amanda (Pugh) Fox. She graduated from Little Sioux High School in 1924 and received a teaching certificate from Morningside College. She taught country schools in Missouri Valley and Blencoe areas prior to her marriage. On March 30, 1937, she was married to Maurice E. Marley at Blencoe. The couple farmed in the Blencoe area. Mr. Marley died March 6, 1974.

She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society of the church.

Survivors include a son, John E. Marley of South Sioux City, Nebr.; a daughter, Mary E. Whitney of Omaha, Nebr.; two sisters, Mrs. Olive Rhoten of Magnolia and Mrs. Beth Reel of Missouri Valley; two brothers, George of Harlan, Ga. and Robert of Missouri Valley; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one grandson, Adam; three sisters; and two brothers.

The Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 1988, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 8, 1988, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Blencoe, Iowa, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. The soloist was Sheila Coyle.

Casket bearers were John Ryan, Leo Marley, Tom Marley, Alfred Smiley, Leon Fox and Everett Rife.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
