Robert D. Sanford, of Boise, Idaho, and formerly of Mapleton, Iowa passes away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise on June 29, 2011 at the age of 58 years. There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton with Rev. Brian Danner officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Robert Had lived in Boise since 1979. He operated his own business, Mr. Salt of Idaho since 1986.

Robert Dennis Sanford was born December 6, 1952; in Mapleton, Iowa to Tom and Elsie (Steinbeck) Sanford. He had one sister, Alice Kluver of Mapleton and three brothers, Jerry Sanford of Sioux City, Iowa, Larry Sanford of Bronson, Iowa, and Tom Sanford of Norfolk, Nebraska.

Robert graduated from Maple Valley High School in Mapleton in May 1970. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard based in Mapleton from 1970 to 1976. During that time he operated a carpet cleaning service with Ted Jepsen. Robert started working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1977 which transferred him from Kansas to Wyoming, Nevada and Idaho. His hobbies were wine making, fishing, hunting, gardening and working in the yard.

He is survived by Ruth Hintz, his domestic companion of 30 years; his parents, Tom and Elsie Sanford; Jerry and Rosie Sanford, Larry and Tammy Sanford, Alice and Larry Kluver, and Tom and Sharon Sanford, as well as Ruth's family, Clancy and Karen Hintz of Winnemucca, Nevada, Vernie Reeve of Hastings, Nebraska, and Larry and Dave Hintz of Hebron, Nebraska. Robert had many family members, friends, and neighbors who touched his life and made him smile.

Bob was an organ donor. His eyes were donated to the Lyon's Club and his body was donated for cancer research.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Robert's name.
