Hazel Louise (Heistand) Chambers 1920 - 2005

Hazel Louise (Heistand) Chambers was born February 22, 1920, to George and Louise (Lovell) Heistand in Moorhead, Iowa. She attended Lovell Country School. On February 5, 1940, she married Everette Earl Chambers in Logan, Iowa. The couple farmed near Woodbine for a couple of years and then farmed near Soldier for 40+ years. Earl died in 1986, and Hazel moved to Dunlap in 1989.

Hazel was baptized at the Soldier Lutheran Church, and she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. She was president of Ladies Aid and she taught Sunday school. Hazel was the treasurer of the Senior Center. In her spare time she loved to garden, dance, crochet and visit wit family and friends.

Hazel died on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 85 years, three months, and four days. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; son, Calvin Chambers; and five brothers, Leonard "Hap", Lawrence, Arnold, Robert and Cloyce Heistand.

She is survived by her four children, Ken Chambers and his wife Candy of Chicago, Illinois, Jan and her husband Ron Baeth of West Des Moines, Iowa, Craig Chambers and his wife Kathy of Soldier, Iowa, Karen and her husband Rev. Craig Swenson of Minnock, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Mary Chambers of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren seven great grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Avis of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Wednesday June 1st at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. Clergy was Pastor Carla Ingebretsen.

Musicians were Lauri Boysen and Mary Bro. Congregational Hymns were Softly & Tenderly, Blessed Assurance, and Bourning Cry, Go My Children.

Honorary Pallbearers were Brenda Haught, Kerri Chambers and Summer Chambers,

Pallbearers were Anthony Chambers, Kevin Baeth, David Baeth, Britton Chambers, Chad Chambers, Jason Chambers, Cory Swenson and Andy Swenson.

Burial was in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery of Rural Soldier, Iowa.

Arrangements handled by Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.
