11 July 2007Pearl Bertha Johnston, 100, Onawa, Iowa, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.
Pearl was born May 29, 1907, in rural Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of William and Kathryn (Jurczewsky) Hatt. After high school, she attended business school in Sioux City. On October 15, 1925, she married James B. Johnston in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived various places before returning to Onawa in 1942 to make their home. Mr. Johnston died November 23, 1992, in Onawa.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Onawa.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Kim and Rebecca Johnston of Omaha, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 sons, James and Bill.
Graveside Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2007, at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Steven C. Hetzel officiating. Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
