HERBERT E. PETERSON

Herbert E. Peterson, Sloan, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 13, 1987, in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a brief illness. Death came at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 12 days.

He was born January 1, 1907, at Albaton, the son of Gust and Ida (Ridder) Peterson. He married Dorothy Jacobson on August 5, 1937, in Sloan. He had lived in rural Sloan his entire lifetime until the couple moved to Sloan in August of this year. He had retired from farming in 1973.

He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church where he had served as Chairman of the Church and was a Sunday School teacher. He had served as director of the Farmers Cereal Coop and was a trustee for Fairview Cemetery Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Sloan; three sons, Carlton of Marshalltown, Ia., and Keith and Kenneth, both of Sloan; one sister, Lillian Peterson of Sloan; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter; and two sisters, Edna and Elsie.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 1987, in the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan with Rev. Russell Sizemore officiating. The pianist was Mrs. Earl Miller. The vocal selections “Some Golden Daybreak” and “Children of the Heavenly Father” were shared by Rev. and Mrs. Earl Miller.

Bearers were Jon Roarson, Terry, Johnson, Norman Westergaard, John Lofshult, Edward Harvey and Milton Anderson.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Sloan (Albaton), Iowa, with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
