H. Raymond Nelson, 92, Mapleton, Iowa, formerly of Castana, Iowa, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Maple Valley Assisted Living.

Harry Raymond Nelson was born November 22, 1914 at Missouri Valley, Iowa, the son of Harry and Meta (Mandelcoe) Nelson. He was raised and attended school at Missouri Valley. He moved to Turin and was a lifelong farmer in the Turin and Castana areas. "He loved the land."

He married Lenora Bellis April, 1933 and later married Ida Breed September 27, 1961. Ida passed away in 1995 at Battle Creek, Iowa.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Melvin Larson of Upsala, MN; two step daughters, Elsie Kemp of Knoxville, IA and Donna Belew of Lonedale, MO; two grandsons, Scott Larson and his wife Joni and Ross Larson; twelve step grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Aaron, Bryan, Cassandra and Kaity Larson; thirty-five step great grandchildren; nine step great-great grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Johnny and Eva Mae Nelson of whiting and three sisters, Lenora Gloyer, Maxine Christiansen and Shirley and her husband, Guy Richardson all of Whiting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a stepdaughter, Ruth Walsh and six brothers, Buster, Carl, Clifford, Shorty Jim, and Milford.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa, IA with Pastor Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Music selections were "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" with Nancy and Cathy Hanson, vocalists and Patsy Petersen, organist. Burial was in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin, IA. Visitation was from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Duane Fredrickson, Paul Petersen, Ralph Christensen, Randy Madsen, Clifford Cox, Scott Larson and Ross Larson
