M. RUTH HIME WALKER

M. Ruth Hime Walker, 78, formerly of Blencoe, Iowa, died Monday, August 31, 1987, in the Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa following a long illness.

She was born October 13, 1908, at Blencoe, the daughter of Ira and Margaret (Marley) Hime. She married Isaac G. Walker, November 26, 1923, in Onawa. The couple made their home in the Blencoe area where she was a cook at the Blencoe School for 15 years. Mr. Walker died December 13, 1972 in Sioux City. She moved to Onawa in 1974 and had resided at Elmwood Care Centre since 1981.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational at Blencoe and a charter member of Stevens-Kelly Post, American Legion Auxiliary at Blencoe. Throughout her active years she had a deep love for gardening and flowers, and the results of her devotion to her garden were very satisfying.

Survivors include two sons, Glen of Blencoe and Gordon of Onawa; a daughter, Mrs. Milo (Mary) Stanislav of Blencoe; a sister, Doris Deakins of Blencoe; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two brothers, Milton and Sam; one sister, Helen South; and a grandson.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 1987, at the United Church of Christ Congregational at Blencoe with Rev. Donald Stoll officiating. The organist, Mrs. Robert Collison, Jr., played the selections “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “In the Garden”.

Bearers were Richard Stanislav, James Stanislav, John Walker, Jerry Walker, Brad Walker and Mark Walker.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery at Blencoe with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
