DELPHINE MARGARET PAYNE

Delphine Margaret Payne, 76, Smithland, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 26, 1987, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, after a short illness.

She was born November 12, 1910, at Ute, Iowa, to Herbert and Olga (Engelke) Sievers. On April 5, 1939, she married Ralph Payne at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple made their home on a farm near Smithland.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Smithland and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph; one son, Herbert of Sioux City, Ia.; two granddaughters; three step-granddaughters; one step-great-granddaughter; and one step-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 1987, at the Smithland United Methodist Church. Rev. Gary DeGeest officiated. Mrs. Ellen Harbeck was the organist. Jack Steinhoff, the soloist, sang “Going Down the Valley” and “How Great Thou Art” accompanied by Mrs. Katherine Cox.

Bearers were Gene Kelsey, Deane Kelsey, James Castle, Daniel Castle, Arthur Castle and Kenneth Lounsberry.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland with arrangements by the Willman Funeral Home, Rodney, Iowa.
