MARGARET C. OLIVER

Margaret Cecelia Oliver, Whiting, Iowa, died on Friday, July 3, 1987, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, following a long illness. Death came at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 15 days.

She was born November 16, 1905, in Linkoping, Sweden, the daughter of Alex and Augusta (Malm) Gustafson. She came to Monona County in 1914 with her parents and was married to Jesse O. Collison, March 10, 1925, at Whiting. He passed away January 1948. Margaret married Robert A. Oliver in 1950 and they lived near Toulon, Illinois, until his death in 1956. Margaret then moved to Sioux City where she was employed by the Erwin Weller Company until her retirement. She returned to Whiting and became a resident of Pleasant View, March 1983.

She was affiliated with the First Covenant Church in Sioux City and was a member of the Scandinavian Society in Sioux City and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Nielsen of Onawa, Iowa and Gloria Bacsujlaky of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Elsie Hanson of Sioux City, Ia.; a brother, Edwin Gustafson of Little Falls, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Judy Kelly of Pittsburg, Pa.; a stepson, Charles Oliver in the U.S. Army in Germany; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 3, 1987, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Quentin Quanbeck officiating. The organist, Mrs. Syril Brown, played “Children of the Heavenly Father”, “He Leadeth Me” and “In Heaven Above” (Swedish Melody).

Casket bearers were John Collison, Sr., John Collison, Jr., Lyle Collison, Paul Collison, Carl Richardson and Gene Zortman.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
