WILLARD W. “BILL” CONNER

Willard W. “Bill” Conner, 81, Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, died June 11, 1987, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after being stricken at his home.

He was born January 21, 1906, at Castana, Iowa, to Henry and Ida Estella (Poland) Conner. He graduated from Castana high School. On September 12, 1938, he married Lucille Mathiasen in South Dakota. She died December 11, 1961, at Sioux City. He owned and operated Conner’s Grocery at Onawa before moving to Sioux City in 1954 where he managed the National Food Stores in downtown Sioux City and Leeds. On October 11, 1964, he married Helen Orr at Sioux City. He was the manager of Parkwood Apartments in Morningside.

He was a member of first Congregational United Church of Christ and a 50-year member of Vesper Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; one daughter, Sandra Gillette of Plano, Texas; one stepson, Vernon Orr, of Whiting; one sister, Mrs. Carl (Wilma) Jensen of Hampton; and three grandchildren, John, Kirk and Gary Gillette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; and one sister, Lucille.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday , June 13, 1987, at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating.

Bearers were William Irwin, G. S. Tollefson, Humphrey Hanson, Robert Sorenson, Harlan Sorenson and Mark Fegenbush.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with Masonic graveside services by Vesper Lodge #223, A.F. & A.M., Carol Johnson, Worshipful Master, Russell Holder, Guest Orator.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
