LORENE H. YOCKEY

Lorene Helen Yockey, 68, Smithland, Ia., died Sunday, May 31, 1987, in a Sioux City hospital.

Mrs. Yockey, the former Lorene Scheer, was born October 2, 1918, in Sidney, Nebr. to Louis and Anna (Kragel) Scheer. At the age of 11, she moved with her parents to Hornick. She taught rural school in Woodbury County.

On September 10, 1940, she married John C. Yockey in Ponca, Nebr. The couple lived in Sioux City, Cedar Rapids and Hornick before moving to the Charter Oak-Ute community. In 1968 they moved to Smithland.

Mrs. Yockey was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church Women in Mapleton. She was serving as secretary of Leslie Seaton Post 666, American Legion Auxiliary of Smithland.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. David (Marleen) McCage of Dublin, Ohio, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Petersen of Ames and Mrs. Darrell (Carolyn) Carr of Hornick; two sisters, Mrs. Mahella Holt of Harlan and Mrs. Louise Sietzinger of Pharr, Texas; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Services were held Thursday, June 4, 1987, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with Rev. Les Kimball officiating. Mrs. Norma Jean Dose was the organist. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”, “Heaven Is My Home” and “Abide With Me”.

Pallbearers were Urban Badenhop, Ed Carr, Brian Petersen, Frank Kloxin, Robert Petersen and Steven Petersen.

Interment was in the Little Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa, with arrangements by Walter Funeral Home.
