LLOYD DARWIN GODSEY

Lloyd Darwin Godsey, 78, of Whiting, Iowa, died Friday, May 29, 1987, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 17, 1909, in Lake Township, Monona County, Iowa, to Darwin VanBuren and Olivia (Lander) Godsey. On June 6, 1934, he married Wanda Folwell at Onawa. The couple farmed near Whiting until moving to the Whiting Ranch at Mapleton in 1949. In 1954, they moved back to Whiting and farmed until retiring in 1973.

He was a member of the United Congregational Church in Sloan, a 50-member and Past Master of Attica Lodge No. 502 A.F. & A.M., a member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Sioux City and a 25-years member of Athena Chapter No. 460 Order of the Eastern Star having served six years as Worthy Patron.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; one son, Lanny, of Omaha, Nebr.; and two sisters, Mrs. Wilbur (Ada) Anstette of Grand Forks, N.D. and Mrs. Jayna Duchaine of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margaret Wold; one daughter, Mary Lou; and one son, Lloyd, Jr.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 1, 1987, at the United Congregational Church in Sloan with Rev. Arthur G. Hermanson officiating. Mrs. Glen Miltenberger, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Howard Pope in the selections “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”.

Bearers were Jon Matthews, Arden Larsen, Robert McClure, Arthur Swanson, Steve Jewett and Orville Miltenberger.

Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Services by Attica Lodge #502, A.F. & A.M., Sloan, Iowa, Joe Jessen, Orator, Arthur Swanson, Worshipful Master.

Arrangements were by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
