KENT “MAC” McADON

Kent Burle “Mac” McAdon, 75, of Onawa, died Sunday, April 26, 1987, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was born October 3, 1911, at Little Sioux, Iowa, to Vard and Marea (Crabb) McAdon. On December 31, 1938, he married Evelyn Wells at Pisgah, Iowa. The couple lived at Marquette, Cherokee, St. Paul, Minnesota and Whiting, before moving to Onawa in 1945.

He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps before transferring to the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a field coordinator and had worked on the Alcan Highway and was inspector of Gavins Point Dam and West Monona High School. He retired from the Corps after 30 years of service and then worked as field coordinator for Architect Associated in Sioux City for 10 years, retired in 1976.

Mr. McAdon served on the Onawa Parks and Recreation Board. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Kiwanis Club of Onawa.

Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn; one son, Kent G. of Adel, Ia.; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Patricia) Barthel of Mapleton, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Black of Onawa, Mrs. Gene (Linda) Cost of Grand Forks, N.D., and Mrs. Don (Jean) Lord of Sloan; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Barnett of Soldier, Mrs. Velora Scott of Whiting and Mrs. Gail (Fama) McCandless of Peoria, Ariz.; one brother, Donald, of Texas; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Larada and Faye.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 1987, at the First Christian Church in Onawa with Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist played “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”.

Active Bearers were Richard Hutcheson, Kent Barnett, Ralph Martin, Darrell Barnett, John Scott and Ron Schemmel.

Honorary Bearers were Robert Heck, Martin Evenson, Dan Benjamin, Earl Rolph, Benny Jensen and August Hansen.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
