WILLIS J. COMFORT

Willis James Comfort, 57, of Onawa, Iowa, died on Friday, March 20, 1987, in Marian Health Center in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

He was born September 6, 1929, in Onawa, the son of Willis G. and Florence (Duffy) Comfort. He grew up in Blencoe and graduated from Blencoe High School in 1946. He served for two years in the Army and later attended Iowa State College at Ames. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1950 and retired in 1970.

He married Myrna Brunstedt at Hiawatha, Kansas. The couple owned and operated several businesses in Missouri Valley including Valley TV and the Comfort Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store. In 1985, the couple moved to Onawa where they operated Bill’s Satellite Sales and Service.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 276, of Omaha, Nebraska, and the Monona County VFW Post No. 2694.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna, of Onawa; two sons, Leslie L. of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Michael J. of Missouri Valley; two daughters, Julia Morris of Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Patricia Comfort of Melbeta, Nebraska; two sisters, Mary Ellen Crane of Geneseo, Illinois and Carol Lambert of Atlanta, Georgia; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard and a daughter Jean Marie.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 1987, in St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, Mass Celebrant, Monsignor Richard Zenk. Mrs. James Stangel, the organist, accompanied David Hausman, the soloist, in the selections “Be Not Afraid” and “I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked”.

Bearers were Jay Kirk, Robert Noren, Terry Madsen, Jon Towne, Jack Comfort and Michael Comfort.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery at Little Sioux, Iowa, with Military Graveside Services by Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2694, Bill Collison, Commander.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
