Mrs. Smothers Funeral Services Held in Methodist Church for Real Pioneer Here

Mrs. Charlotte Frances Smothers 77 year old Mapleton resident her entire life, died early Sunday morning in the Onawa hospital after an illness of several months, following a stroke suffered in her home on Heisler street.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon with Rev George A Osborn, pastor of the church officiating.

Pall bearers were George Zediker, Grant Zediker, Clark Zediker, Arnold Zediker, Ivan Zediker and Alvin O'Connor, all nephews of Mrs. Smothers. Burial was in Heisler cemetery under direction of tho Byers Funeral home.

Mrs. Smothers was born on a farm near Mapleton March 10, 1871 , the daughter of Samuel and Mary Heisler. She attended schools in the Mapleton vicinity where she lived all her life, a real pioneer in this community.

She was united in marriage April 25, 1888, to Louis Zediker of Mapleton. Two children died in infancy, Harry Zediker, the oldest son and a World War I veteran died May 4 1936. six children survive. Mr. Zediker died some years ago.

Later in life she was married to John William Smothers of Mapleton who preceded her in death about 2 years ago.

She is survived by 3 sons W. L. Zediker and Roy Zediker of Mapleton and Orville E Zediker of Sioux City, 3 daughters, Mrs. Mary Atterbury of Norfolk VA., Mrs. Allie Bouslaugh of Onawa and Mrs. Frances Kenley of Battle Creek, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
