BATTLE CREEK, Iowa -- Amanda Rossow, 95, of Battle Creek died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. The Rev. Randy Cormeny will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Born Nov. 23, 1915, in Mapleton, Iowa, Amanda Carolyn Ann (Marten) Rossow was the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Rohde) Marten. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1933. She later attended the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Amanda married Edgar J.C. Rossow on Aug. 19, 1944, in El Paso, Texas. The couple was blessed with three children, Ronald, Palma, and Frances. In earlier years, Amanda helped her husband on the farm and at the DX and Sinclair stations in Battle Creek. She enjoyed working at the Battle Creek High School for several years.

Amanda was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, where she participated in Ladies Aid. She also served as a faithful and dedicated volunteer for the Orphan Grain Train. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery, and scrap booking.

Survivors include three children, Ronald Rossow of Fremont, Neb., Palma (John) Myers of Maryville, Mo., and Frances (Dan) Oeffner of Paullina, Iowa; two grandchildren, Matthew (Julie) Rossow of Fremont, and Michelle (Justin) Hoatson of Lincoln, Neb.; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Linly; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar in 2005; her parents; a granddaughter, Teri Ann Oeffner; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Rossow; and a sister, Pearl Jochims.
