MAPLETON, Iowa | Robert "Bob" R. Bridgeman, 82, of Mapleton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at his home with his family at his side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Harvey Hanson officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with military rites provided the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Robert "Bob" Ray Bridgeman was born on Nov. 25, 1931, in Mapleton, to Charles Richard and Elsie Opal (Hayes) Bridgeman. He grew up and attended school in the area. He served his country in the U.S. Army from Sept. 11, 1950, until returning home upon his honorable discharge on June 4, 1952.

On Jan. 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elsie Irene Pauley in Onawa, Iowa. To this union, three children were born. Elsie passed away on Oct. 22, 1978. He worked at the Redi Mix Company in Mapleton and farmed until 1980. He also worked at LeFebvre’s 66 Station in Mapleton until his retirement.

On Oct. 29, 1983, Robert married Mary Anne Berry of Baxter, Iowa.

He enjoyed the outdoors, but his greatest enjoyment was found in his family and friends.

Those survivors left to cherish Robert’s memory include his wife, Mary Berry; three children, LuAnna Gray and her husband, Ed of Onawa, Iowa, Bob Bridgeman Jr. and his wife, Bonny of Mapleton, and Betty Gray and her husband, Richard of Blencoe, Iowa; seven stepchildren, Jimmie and Tina Cox of Phoenix, Ariz., Susie and Mike Johnson of Baxter, Iowa, Mary and Kevin Krampe of Baxter, JoAnne and Marty Kunkel of Newton, Iowa, Donnie and Michelle Cox of Allerman, Iowa, Carla Berry of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Nick Cox of Mapleton; 11 adopted children, Tony Berry of Sioux City, Andy Berry of Mapleton, Isaac Berry of Sioux City, Aleandria Berry of Mapleton, Jake Berry of Iowa City, Iowa, Aleisha Berry of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Alex Berry of Council Bluffs, Spencer Berry of Sioux City, Nathan Berry, Patrick Berry, and Angel Berry, all of Mapleton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Donald Bridgeman and friend, Donna of Ute, Iowa, Willard "Red" Bridgeman and his wife, Peggy of Ute, and Verlin "Butch" Bridgeman and his wife, Jolene of Denison, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Claretta Bridgeman of Tyndall, S.D., and Elaine Hopkins of Albia, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Along with his first wife, Elsie (Pauley) Bridgeman, Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bernard "Whitey" Bridgeman; three nephews, Jeffrey Bridgeman, Ronald Bridgeman, and Miron Allen; seven sisters-in-law, Betty Pauley, Delores "Barney" Anderson, Ruth Hopkins, Vivian Bridgeman, Alice Bridgeman, Wilma Hopkins, and Mary Allen; and one brother-in-law, "Pete" Pauley
