Dorothy D. Ehlers died Dec. 15 in Dunlap at the age of 93 years, 8 months, 7 days. Dorothy was born April 8, 1920, in Mapleton, the daughter of Millard and Mary (Cox) Clubine. She was raised on the farm as one of a family of 10 children.

After completing high school in Mapleton, Dorothy continued her education in LeMars and received her teaching certificate. She taught country school south of Ute for two years.

On Oct. 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to Loyle W. Ehlers at Laverne, Minn. The couple made their home for over 50 years on the farm near Dunlap until Loyle’s death on March 27, 1998. Dorothy remained living on her own until June of 2010 when she entered the Dunlap Care Center.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Ute.

Survivors include one daughter, Bev Hartigan of La Quinta, Calif.; two sons, David Ehlers of Dunlap and Donald Ehlers and his wife, Jeanne, of Hancock; one daughter-in-law, Patti Ehlers of Friend, Neb.; four grandchildren – Todd Ehlers, Jon Ehlers, Heather Stevens, and Noelle Lawver; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dwight Ehlers; and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service was Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute with Rev. Pastor Marcus Manley officiating. Message in Music was by Creta Teut, organist, and included congregational singing of “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Pallbearers were Roger Johnson, Lonnie Ehlers, Robert Ehlers, Shane Ehlers, Todd Ehlers, and Alex Ehlers.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 5-7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Interment was at St. Clair Cemetery, Ute.

Everyone attending wass invited and encouraged to go to the church basement following the interment for a time of sharing food and fellowship.

Armstrong Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements
