LESTER C. “BRANDY” MYRLAND

Lester C. “Brandy” Myrland, 88, Onawa, Iowa, died on Wednesday, March 4, 1987, at his home following a long illness.

He was born august 7, 1898, at Primrose, Wisconsin, the son of Eli P. Myrland and Julia Nessa Myrland. He came to Onawa in 1909 and graduated from Onawa High School in 1917. He married Alberta Maggard in January 1920. She died in 1936. On August 23, 1946, he married Florence Jensen. He operated the Onawa Oil Co. with his brother, Eli Myrland, and served as Monona County Assessor from 1949 until his retirement in 1969.

He was a 50 year member of Vesper Masonic Lodge No. 223 AF & AM and a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational both of Onawa, and the Iowa Assessors’ Association.

Survivors include his wife, Florence, and two brothers, Ervin J. of Whiting, Ia.; and Glen W. of Onawa; two nieces, Jane Leib of Parrish, Fla.; and Julia Ann Modlin of Indianola, Ia.; and a nephew, Eli Myrland, of Yuma, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cecelia Myrland and one brother, Eli C. Myrland.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, 1987, at Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Vince Phillips, played, “How Great Thou Art”.

Casket bearers were Joe Jackson, Don Reed, Merle Mock, Roger Blatchford, Keith Hatt and Don Modlin.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
