Viola "Vi" Anderson, 83, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glen Houts, Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Vi was born in the Albaton and Sloan, Iowa, area on Aug. 12, 1920, the daughter of Swen and Hulda (Jacobson) Carlson. She was raised in the Sloan area and graduated from Sloan High School in 1938.

She married Lester H. Anderson on Dec. 13, 1939, in Ponca, Neb. He died Dec. 10, 1990, in Sioux City.

She had worked in the kitchen at Biltmore Restaurant and also on the line at Robb Ross Co. She had lived most of her life in Siouxland and lived in Sioux City for the last 18 years.

She had been a member of Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton. While a resident of Pheasant Acres Apartments, she would make and sell recycled greeting cards for Wesley United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing cards.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Lyle and Char Anderson of Sioux City; two daughters, Lavon Whitmore of Sioux City, and Lana and her husband, Delayne Folsom of Hornick, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Tausha, Terry, Amber, Sara, Traci and Susan; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Elizabeth, Kristina, Jessica, Jon, Ryan, Bill, Alex, Selena, Jasmine, Marisa and Damien.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jon Whitmore; two brothers, Carl and Alfred Carlson; and two sisters, Alfreda Polly and Edna Carlson.

Pallbearers will be Joe Albers, Roger Heinle, Denny Roarson, Jeff Redmond, Jon Whitmore and Ryan Lovan.
