MOORHEAD, Iowa -- Juhl Hansen, 86, of Moorhead passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Moorhead Christian Church, with the Rev. Ron Keith officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are pending with Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Anton Juhl Hansen was born June 13, 1923, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Anton and Sigrid (Hansen) Hansen. He was raised in the Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead Public School. Except for a few years in Omaha and California, he was a lifetime resident of Moorhead. He and his brother, Stan, worked with their father in the Hansen Blacksmith and Welding Shop, which served the community for more than 75 years.

On June 4, 1944, Juhl and Bernadine Shol were united in marriage at Moorhead Christian Church. The couple made their home and raised their two children in Moorhead. They are proud to have been living in the house at the top of the hill for more than 65 years.

He was an active lifetime member of Moorhead Christian Church, where he was always very involved, holding many offices, acting as handyman, sharing his carpentry talent, etc. He also had been a member of the town council for more than 20 years, served on the school board for eight years, was a volunteer member of the fire department and served on the rescue unit for many years.

He retired from the blacksmith shop in 1985, but stayed very busy with his many interests and hobbies. He loved trees and had planted many in the community. He loved his community and was truly a man of the outdoors, spending his time fishing, boating, water skiing, RVing and doing photography.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadine of Moorhead; a son-in-law, Marty (Evie) Cline of Moorhead; three granddaughters and their husbands, Niki and Matt Frerichs, Jewel and Chad Nickolison and Mindy and Jade Nuzum, all of Omaha; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hope Nielsen of Onawa, Iowa, and Mary Lou and her husband, Robert Kaveny of Novato, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Lorayne Hansen of San Rafael, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Hansen; a daughter, Rhonda Cline; two brothers, Stanley Hansen and Paul Hansen; a sister, Ruth Hansen; and a brother-in-law, Howard Nielsen.
