Wayne G. Livermore, 86, of Mapleton passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Oto Cemetery, Oto, Iowa, with an American flag presentation by the Little Sioux Valley V.F.W. Post 9124 of Oto. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Wayne Gray Livermore was born on May 10, 1926, in Oto, one of 13 children born to Alfred AI and Annie Elizabeth Morrison (Gray) Livermore. He was baptized, grew up, and attended school in Oto. Wayne served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from Sept. 22, 1944, to Nov. 19, 1946. For 20 months he served in the South Pacific, primarily in the Philippines, earning the Asian Ribbon with a Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge, Wayne moved near family at Canby, Minn.

On Dec. 7, 1947, Wayne was united in marriage to Deloris Mae Laabs at the Lutheran church in Canby. He was also baptized into the Lutheran faith while in Canby. Wayne worked at various jobs in Minnesota while raising their family of four children. They moved to Iowa in 1957 and lived and worked in multiple areas, settling upon retirement on their acreage northwest of Mapleton. Wayne and Deloris moved into Mapleton in 1997.

He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, a past member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton, and a current member of the Little Sioux Valley V.F.W. Post 9124 of Oto.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Deloris; children, Dennis Livermore and his wife, Anne of Mapleton, Peggy Ketelsen and her husband, Kimbo of Castana, Iowa, Kathy Wunschel and her husband, Larry of Mapleton, and Mark Livermore and Kathy Schiltz of Mapleton; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Marion Stratton of Huron, S.D., and Pauline Ronald of West Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and five sisters.
