Old Father Time is slowly, but surely gathering to himself the early pioneers of the Maple Valley until but few remain. The last to go was Orlando Muckey, who died at his home in Mapleton June 27, aged 66 years, 4 months and 22 days.
Mr. Muckey was taken very sick in the early fall, and did not r e cover his health.
He was born in "Washita County, Wisconsin, Feb. 7, 1846. In 1862, when a lad of 16, he came to Monona County with his parents who located on what has been known over since as the Muckey farm, a short distance south of Mapleton. His whole life has been lived in this vicinity.
Mr. Muckey was united in marriage to Miss Mary C. Woods in 1867, and there were born to them ten children, seven of whom survive him, as follows: Guy Muckey, Mrs. Chas. Lee, Mrs. S.
N. Powell, Mrs. H. M. Porter, Mrs. Pearl Hayes, of Mapleton, Mrs. H.L. McLean, of Chase, B. C, and Wm. P. Muckey, of San Francisco, Mrs. Muckey died several years ago.The funeral occurred Monday at 10 a.m. from the home, Rev. Ladd officiating. The remains were interred in the Heisler cemetery.
